Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said: “I salute your courage, courage and professionalism. 4 December is celebrated each year as Navy Day to commemorate the attack on the port of Karachi during the 1971 Indian-Pakistani war. On this day, the attack by the Indian Navy on the port of Karachi contributed to the final victory of the Indian Armed Forces over Pakistan.

The Indian Navy on its big day posted a video on Twitter about the importance of being vigilant 24×7 and going to the extreme to protect India’s maritime borders. “On the occasion of # NavyDay2020 we reaffirm the firm commitment of # IndianNavy to the service of the Nation and to guarantee our Maritime Security and Territorial Integrity”, said Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval General Staff and all the personnel of the Indian Navy.

On December 3, 1971, Pakistan attacked Indian air bases. After the attack, the 25th Missile Ship Squadron was ordered to send three missile ships: Nirghat, Veer and Nipat at full speed towards Karachi. Just before midnight on December 4, the Navy’s missile ships carried out successful attacks that resulted in the sinking of the Pakistani destroyer Khaiber, the minesweeper Muhafiz and the MV Venus Challenger, as well as the destruction of the oil fields of Kiamari. Karachi was attacked again on December 7-8 from the West. INS Vinash fired four missiles, which damaged MV Gulf Star, MV Harmatton and PN Tanker Dacca.
