New Delhi:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President-elect Joe Biden will speak to each other in due course at a convenient time for both of them, the Foreign Ministry said on Thursday, saying the ties between India and the United States enjoy bipartisan support in the United States.
The MEA’s claim comes days after Biden defeated President Donald Trump in a close presidential election that drew a record number of Americans to cast their votes.
MEA spokesman Anurag Srivastava said that the prime minister had congratulated US President-elect Biden through a tweet and also appreciated the former US Vice President’s contribution to strengthening US-India relations.
Prime Minister Modi also conveyed that he hopes to work with him to take India-US relations to greater heights, Srivastava said at an online press conference.
When asked when the two leaders will speak to each other, he said it will happen “in due course at a time convenient for both.”
On the future of ties under the incoming US administration, Srivastava said that the foundation of India-US relations is very strong and that this comprehensive global strategic partnership between the two countries has bipartisan support in the US.
“Successive presidents and administrations have been seen to have deepened ties,” he said.
Ties between India and the United States have seen a major rebound in the past four years, particularly in the areas of defense and security.
