President accepts resignation of Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Narendra Singh Tomar allocated his portfolio


India’s President Ram Nath Kovind accepted the resignation of the Minister of Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal from the Union cabinet and ordered Narendra Singh to be appointed to take over the additional ministry post, according to a press release .

“The President of India, as advised by the Prime Minister, has accepted Smt’s resignation. Harsimrat Kaur Badal of the Council of Ministers of the Union, with immediate effect, under clause (2) of Article 75 of the Constitution ”, said the statement issued on Friday.

“Furthermore, as advised by the prime minister, the president ordered that Shri Narendra Singh Tomar, cabinet minister, be assigned the post of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries in addition to his existing portfolios,” he added.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal had submitted his resignation from the cabinet on Thursday in protest of legislation seeking to liberalize agricultural markets. “I have resigned from the Union Cabinet in protest against ordinances and legislation against farmers. Proud to support farmers like her daughter and sister, ”she tweeted.

Minister Shiromani Akali Dal’s (SAD) party opposed the laws on agricultural relations, but said it will continue to be part of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

“These bills have many provisions that go against the interests of farmers. We have repeatedly asked the government to address the arrests of farmers, but the government has done nothing. Therefore, I am opposed to these bills, ”said SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal.
