Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday asked the entertainment industry to prepare an action plan on limited resumption of the film shooting and post-production activities, through the adherence of social distancing rules in the middle of the coronavirus-induced block of security.
Thackeray, however, ruled out the reopening of the cinemas or theatres in any time soon.
Filming of movies, as well as other production activities remained suspended since mid-March, in view of the coronavirus pandemic.
“The government should consider the possibility of an action plan on how to shoot and post-production activities can be resumed in a limited way, through the adherence of social distancing and other norms,” Thackeray said to a delegation of representatives from the entertainment industry, especially from the Marathi theatre, television and film.
The outstanding demands of the industry, including the savings of a single-screen theatres, helping the poor of the composers of music, and waiver of GST in the production of the film.
Thackeray told the delegates that he did not believe that the clamping lock meant everything comes to a standstill.
“We have allowed that industry, commerce and shops open taking all precautions. Commercial activities have also begun in the state of restriction of the containment areas,” an official statement quoted Thackeray as saying in the occasion.
The CM said that the great entertainment industry consists of various elements such as the actors, and backstage artists, technicians and workers.
Thackeray said that his government consider the possibility of offering the rental of concessions for the production of houses that have their sets erected in Film City and the support of popular artists.
In reference to the demand of the producers to allow the resumption of the shootings and the post-production work, the CM said that the demand can be considered a “non-red” areas in the state.
“However, care must be taken to ensure that the locations for the filming of a movie is not found in the containment zones and the number of people in the sets, and their hygiene is taken care of,” he said.
For the edition of studies, guidelines should be issued on the space and the air-conditioning system, he said.
The CM also asked the state of the Culture of the department and the producers to check if some of the shootings can take place before the start of the monsoon season, the statement said.
Shooting close to 70 Hindi and 40 Marathi films, 10 in the web of the series had stopped because of the coronavirus pandemic, which has affected the livelihoods of more than three lakh workers and technicians, he said.

According to estimates, 30,000 episodes of television content that is produced each year.
“The total investment in Hindi television is Rs 5000 crore and in Marathi, it is Rs 250 crore,” the statement quoted the delegation to tell the CM.
