The 84-year-old man was admitted to the military hospital on August 10 and also tested positive for COVID-19 before surgery. Later he developed a lung infection.
He previously said that the former president was admitted to the hospital at 12:07 p.m. on August 10, 2020 in critical condition.
“The examination at the hospital revealed a large brain clot for which he underwent emergency surgery that saved his life,” the hospital previously said.
A multidisciplinary team of doctors constantly monitors the health of the former president.
Mukherjee tweeted on Monday that he had tested positive for COVID-19 and urged people who had been in contact with him in the past week to isolate themselves and get tested for the new coronavirus.
Shortly after the news of his hospitalization, wishes came from various sectors for his speedy recovery and several leaders sent their wishes on Twitter.
President Ram Nath Kovind also spoke with Mukherjee’s daughter, Sharmistha Mukherjee, and asked about her health.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh visited R&R Hospital and inquired about the former president’s health.
Singh spent about 20 minutes in the hospital.
Congressional leader Rahul Gandhi also sent his best wishes to the former president and wished him a speedy recovery.
