JAMMU: Security forces detained four suspects and recovered six grenades from them in Jammu and cashmerein the Poonch district, thwarting a possible attempt to attack a temple, police said Sunday.
Poonch Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramesh Kumar Angral said the success was achieved when the local police Special Operations Group (SOG) along with troops from the 49 Rashtriya rifles detained two brothers, Mustafa Iqbal and Murtaza Iqbal from the village of Galhuta. during the vehicle inspection near Basooni in the Mendhar sector around 8pm on Saturday.
“His questioning took place at 49 Rashtriya Rifle Battalion headquarters, Basooni, “said the officer.
Mustafa was found to have received a call from a Pakistani number, he said.
“Upon further questioning, he admitted that he had been tasked with throwing a grenade at a temple in Ari village,” the SSP said.
He said a video was also found on his phone on how to use a grenade.
Later, during the search of his home, six grenades and some posters of the previously unknown J&K Ghaznavi Force were recovered, Angral said.
He said that two more suspects were detained in the Dabi village on the Line of Control (LoC) in the Balakote sector.
The search operation is still continuing and more details are awaited, the SSP said.
