Political Compulsions Forced Prime Minister Modi To Praise Tamil Nadu CM For Covid-19 Efforts, Says Stalin | Chennai News

CHENNAI: DMK President MK Stalin said on Thursday that political compulsions and AIADMK’s support for agricultural bills, pushed by the BJP government in the Center, had forced Prime Minister Narendra Modi to praise to Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, Edappadi K Palaniswami, for his government’s efforts to curb COVID-19.
“Prime Minister Palaniswami has long let God contain the Covid-19 pandemic. The AIADMK government had completely failed in its efforts to contain the spread of the pandemic in Tamil Nadu, where more than five lakh people tested positive and more than 9,000 people died, ”he said.
“Only political compulsions and AIADMK’s support for farm bills could have been the reasons for Prime Minister Modi praising CM Palaniswami,” Stalin said in a statement.
Prime Minister Modi praised the CM as he participated in a virtual interaction with top ministers across the country on Wednesday.
According to Stalin, more than 1.5 lakh people were affected by the coronavirus and more than 3,000 died in the state capital, Chennai. Even in the Salem district, Prime Minister Palaniswami’s home district, more than 17,000 people tested positive while 284 people died.
“When this was the reality, the CM already started its electoral campaign by touring districts on behalf of the crown review meetings,” Stalin said.
