Calcutta:
After Bollywood actor Sunny Leone and singer Neha Kakkar, the name of the Japanese cartoon character Shinchan Nohara “maliciously” made it onto the merit list of a university in West Bengal.
Shinchan’s name appeared at the top of Siliguri College’s BSc (honors) merit list in North Bengal, an official from the institution told the Press Trust of India news agency on Monday.
“The name was immediately removed and a new list was posted on the university’s website. We have filed a police report because it was an act of mischief,” he said.
The university had outsourced to an agency the process of compiling the list of merits based on the details provided by the candidates during the online applications, but the authorities of the institution will analyze the details of the students before the classes start, the official said.
The incident comes shortly after singer Neha Kakkar’s name appears on Malda’s Manikchak College’s BA English (Honors) merit list and actor Sunny Leone’s name appears on the lists of three other universities.
All four schools have filed complaints with police cyber cells.
The West Bengal government had previously announced that admissions to undergraduate courses will be fully online this year and no processing fee will be charged due to difficulties caused by the COVID-19 outbreak.
