“A reset of mindset. A reset of processes and a reset of practices. The pandemic has given us the opportunity to develop new protocols in all fields. This opportunity must be seized by the world if we are to develop resilient systems for the future. We should think about the post-COVID requirements of the world. A good starting point would be the rejuvenation of our urban centers, “added PM Modi.
Reflecting on the theme of the rejuvenation of urban centers, PM Modi emphasized the centrality of people in the recovery process.
Qualifying people as the greatest resources and communities as the building block, he said: “The pandemic has re-emphasized that our greatest resource, as societies and businesses, is our people. The post-COVID world must be built by nurturing this key and fundamental resource. “
The Prime Minister highlighted the need to carry forward the knowledge acquired during the pandemic period.
Speaking about a cleaner environment during the closure period, he wondered if we can build sustainable cities where a cleaner environment is the norm and not the exception.
“Our effort in India has been to build urban centers, which have the comforts of a city but the spirit of a village,” said PM.
He informed the forum about recent initiatives to revitalize the Indian urban landscape such as Digital India, Startup India, Affordable Housing, Real Estate (Regulation) Act and Metro Rail in 27 cities.
“We are on track to deliver about 1000 km of the Metro Rail system in the country by 2022,” the Prime Minister informed the forum.
He also said: “We have selected 100 smart cities through a two-stage process. It was a national competition upholding the philosophy of cooperative and competitive federalism. These cities have prepared projects worth nearly two lakh crore rupees or $ 30 billion and projects worth nearly one lakh forty thousand crore rupees or $ 20 billion have been completed or are nearing completion. “
