NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch on Sunday the physical distribution of property cards under the ‘SVAMITVA’ scheme via videoconference.
The launch will allow owners of approximately one lakh to download their property cards via the SMS link delivered to their mobile phones, according to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The beneficiaries of the plan are 763 villages in six states, including 346 of Uttar Pradesh221 from Haryana, 100 from Maharashtra, 44 from Madhya Pradesh, 50 from Uttarakhand and two from Karnataka.
“The beneficiaries of all these states except Maharashtra will receive the physical copies of the Property Cards in one day. Maharashtra has a system to recover the nominal cost of the Property Card, so it will take a month,” said PMO.
The move will pave the way for villagers to use the property as a financial asset to obtain loans and other financial benefits.
The Prime Minister will also interact with some of the beneficiaries during the event.
SVAMITVA is a central sector plan of the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, which was launched by the Prime Minister on National Day of Panchayati Raj, April 24, 2020.
The plan aims to provide “registration of rights” to village home owners in rural areas and to issue property cards.
The plan is being rolled out across the country gradually over a four-year period (2020-2024) and would eventually cover around 6.62 lakh villages in the country.
According to the PMO statement, around 1 lakh from villages in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Karnataka and some border villages in Punjab and Rajasthan, along with the establishment of the Continuous Operating System station network ( CORS) in Punjab and Rajasthan are covered in the pilot phase (2020-21).
