Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to meet top ministers from seven states on Wednesday, who are primarily contributing to the country’s Covid-19 case burden. The meeting occurs just before the completion of Unlock 4, the final phase of the unlock, which will end on September 30. After the country went through a national shutdown on March 25, Prime Minister Modi held several virtual meetings with the CMs to discuss the Covid-19 Situation.

* The top ministers of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi and Punjab will attend the meeting.
* These seven states represent 63 percent of total Covid-19 cases in the country.
* Maharashtra, Punjab, and Delhi report a fatality rate of at least 2%.
* These states have also recently reported a daily increase in the number of cases.
* The Center is dispatching its team to states to assist state governments in containment, surveillance, testing, and efficient clinical management. Recently, a team was dispatched to J&K. On Tuesday, India passed the 5.5 million mark in terms of the number of cases of coronavirus disease. But the Union Health Ministry said the country’s active cases are less than a fifth of the total count.
Maharashtra reported 18,390 new Covid-19 infections on Tuesday, bringing the total to 1,242,770. The state topped 60 lakh of Covid testing with its highest number of samples tested in a 24-hour period with 105,026 tests. The active number of cases in the state stood at 272,410.
Delhi, on the other hand, recorded 3,816 new cases on Tuesday, bringing the count to more than 2.53 lakh, while the death count jumped to 5,051.
