Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a commemorative 75 rupee denomination coin on Friday to mark the 75th anniversary of the Food and Agriculture Organization. [FAO] of the United Nations.
Speaking on the occasion via webcast, the Prime Minister also launched 17 new varieties of biofortified crops and reiterated the government’s commitment to purchasing agricultural crops at a minimum support price. [MSP].
The move came at a time when several farmers have refused to call out their ongoing agitation against controversial farm laws, despite having held talks with the Center recently.
“PEM and public procurement are an important part of the country’s food security. It is important that it continues to operate with better facilities and scientifically. We are committed to this, ”he said.
He added that the Center was also promoting millet and high nutritional value crops to address malnutrition in the country.
In addition to this, Modi also said that efforts are being made to improve Mandi’s infrastructure so that the MSP purchase continues in a scientific manner.
He added that the government in the last six years has been investing to boost infrastructure facilities in the Agricultural Products Marketing Committees (APMC).
