On Saturday, the Karnataka government launched clinical trials of convalescent plasma therapy for patients with “severe” coronaviruses in the state.
In a tweet, Minister of Medical Education K Sudhakar said: “I am happy to announce the start of clinical trials for plasma therapy that holds great promise for treating severely infected # Covid19 patients. Health Min @sriramulubjp and I initiated this significant step at Victoria Hospital this morning. ”
The Minister, who also leads government efforts against Covid-19 in Bangalore and is in charge of the state war room, said that Convalescent Plasma Therapy was only for critically ill patients, in intensive care units or with ventilators.
Donors have also come forward for this, he had said.
According to officials, patients who have recovered from Covid-19 have been called to present themselves as donors, as the antibodies from the cured patients will be used to critically treat sick patients under this therapy.
According to the latest update, five Covid-19 patients are in the ICU in the state.
Health Minister Sriramulu expressed his hope that convalescent plasma therapy will be a torch bearer in our fight against the virus.
