Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a review meeting on Thursday to assess the progress of research and the vaccine development ecosystem to combat the coronavirus disease (Covid-19). The meeting was attended by Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, NITI Aayog (Health) Fellow, Senior Scientific Advisor, senior scientists and other officials.
PM Modi said that whether it be tests, vaccines and drugs, the solution must be cost effective, readily available and scalable.

one. Pfizer Inc said on Friday that it would request the emergency use in the United States of its Covid-19 vaccine candidate that is being developed together with Germany’s BioNTech SE as soon as a safety milestone is achieved in the third week of November.
two. Bharat Biotech, which is developing a native vaccine in collaboration with the Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR), is conducting its second phase of testing, the results of which are expected soon.
3. Results from phase three of the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine could be available in late November or early December, Niti Aayog announced Tuesday.
Four. India is expected to have a Covid-19 vaccine in a few months and the country should be in the process of delivering it to people in the next six months, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Thursday.
5. The government has begun to make logistical arrangements for procurement, storage and distribution to ensure uninterrupted delivery of a vaccine, when one is available.
