Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that people must show patience as they celebrate festivals at a time when the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is sweeping across the country.
“Dussehra is a festival of victory of patience over crises. Today, all of you live in great moderation, celebrating the holidays with modesty. Therefore, in the battle of Covid-19, we are fighting, victory is certain, ”Prime Minister Modi said in his monthly Mann Ki Baat radio address.
“Previously, a large number of people used to gather at Durga Pandal. It was a fair atmosphere during Durga Puja and Dussehra, but this time it didn’t happen. Many more festivals are going to be observed, we have to work in moderation during this Covid-19 crisis, “he added.
PM Modi also said that the people of the country should remember the soldiers who protect the country’s borders. “Light a lamp for them in their homes while they celebrate festivals,” he said.
The prime minister said that when holding festivals, people should remember the people who helped them during the times of confinement. “Remember the times of lockdown when we got to know those close partners in society without whom our lives would have been very difficult. Sanitation workers, housekeepers and guards were with us in difficult times. Now at festivals, we have to take them, ”he said.
Prime Minister Modi also called for promoting indigenously made products during the festival season. “This time, amid the excitement of the festival, when you go shopping be sure to remember your determination as ‘vocal for local’. When buying goods in the market, give priority to local products, ”he said.
Many of our local products have the potential to go global, he added.
Highlighting the popularity of local products like Khadi, Prime Minister Modi said that a store in Delhi recorded a sale of rupees 1 crore in a single day in Gandhi Jayanti. He further said that Khadi has made a mark in Mexico.
He also said that the traditional Indian sport Mallakhambh is gaining popularity in at least 20 countries.
