Payal Ghosh reacts after filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was summoned by Mumbai police


Mumbai police issued a subpoena to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap in connection with a rape case brought against him by actress Payal Ghosh, an official said Wednesday. Kashyap was asked to appear before Versova police on Thursday to further investigate the case against him nine days ago, the official said.

Reacting to the same, Payal Ghosh took his Twitter account and acknowledged the step taken and hoped that ‘justice would be done’ in the case.

Versova police registered an FIR against Kashyap on September 22 after the actress along with her lawyer Nitin Satpute approached police, the official said. In her police report, the actress alleged that Kashyap raped her in 2013. On Tuesday, Ghosh and the Minister of the State Union for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale met with the Governor of Maharashtra, BS Koshyari, to seek action. against Kashyap.

After the meeting, Athawale told reporters that the governor said he will speak with Maharashtra’s Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh about the issue. On Monday, Ghosh in a joint press conference with Athawale, chairman of the Republican Party of India (RPI-A), demanded that Kashyap be arrested.

Athawale met with Mumbai Joint Police (Law and Order) Commissioner Vishwas Nangare Patil on Monday, along with Ghosh, seeking action against the filmmaker. The Union Minister had also said that his party will organize a protest if the police do not arrest Kashyap within a week. Last week, the Versova police registered the FIR against Kashyap under Sections 376 (I) of the Indian Penal Code (rape), 354 (assault or use of criminal force on a woman with the intention of outraging her modesty), 341 (unlawful restriction) and 342 (unlawful confinement).
