Two AAP lawmakers, whose rapid antigen test report for COVID-19 came back negative, attended the deliberations of the Delhi Assembly special session on Monday, but left the House shortly after their RT-PCR report confirmed the viral infection, authorities said. These two lawmakers had undergone an RT-PCR test for COVID-19 on Friday. As their reports were expected, they decided to undergo a rapid antigen test Monday morning and their reports came back negative, an official said.
It was mandatory for all legislators to bring their COVID-19 test report to attend House proceedings. “Their RT-PCR test report came in the evening. It showed positive COVID-19, after which they left the Chamber,” the official said.
The official said 180 people were tested for COVID-19 at the facility set up at the assembly facility on Monday. Of these, nine, including an MLA, a journalist and some employees of the assembly secretariat, tested positive. This MLA went home without attending House proceedings.
On Twitter, RK Puram MLA Parmila Toka said that she tested positive for coronavirus before the assembly session, adding that she was completely fine. She asked those who were in contact with her in recent days to get tested. Four other MLAs had previously tested positive or COVID-19, authorities said.
Various security measures were put in place for the one-day session, including the installation of a coronavirus testing facility in the assembly for staff and legislators. On Monday, the national capital registered 3,229 cases of COVID-19, bringing the count to more than 2.21 lakh, while the death toll rose to 4,770. Twenty-six deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.
