Bombay:
The Mumbai criminal branch of the police on Thursday arrested a former executive director of the Pune District Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) in the bogus TRP scam, an official said.
Partho Dasgupta, the defendant, is the fifteenth person arrested in the case related to the alleged manipulation of the Television Rating Points (TRP) by some television channels.
He was arrested by the Criminal Intelligence Unit (CIU) of the jurisdiction of the Rajgad Police Station in the Pune district and will be presented in court in Mumbai on Friday, the official said.
Previously, the CIU had arrested former BARC COO Ramil Ramgarhia in the case, among others.
The Mumbai police launched the investigation after BARC, a rating agency, filed a complaint of TRP tampering through some channels.
TRP, measured by recording audience data in sample households, is crucial as it helps television channels attract advertisers.
It was alleged that some of these households were being bribed to tune in to certain channels and increase their TRP.
