Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday that members of Parliament have chosen to fulfill their responsibility by showing up for the monsoon session. He also expressed his hope that discussions on important issues will be resumed in the session and that all parliamentarians send a message “with one voice” that the entire country is behind the brave soldiers stationed at the borders on difficult terrain.
Addressing the media before the monsoon session, the prime minister said that the pandemic still exists, but that deputies chose the path of duty. “I congratulate you and express my gratitude. This time, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will take place at different times in one day. It will also take place on Saturday and Sunday. And all the deputies have accepted it, ”he said.

After the budget session had to be interrupted in March due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Parliament is meeting again for an 18-day session that will take place during staggered working hours.

While procedures such as zero hour and question time have been abandoned in view of the reduction in hours, the prime minister expressed hope that the House will raise important issues.
“There will be discussions on various topics and we have the experience that in Lok Sabha, the whole country tends to benefit from the detailed and extensive discussions that take place. We will continue that great tradition and all the deputies will add value to it, ”he said.

As the issue of Chinese aggression along the Royal Line of Control (LAC) is expected to dominate the session, the prime minister said MPs must send a message that the country stands by its soldiers.
“This Parliament has a special duty; Today our brave soldiers stand on the borders with zeal and confidence in difficult terrain, and it will soon start to snow. They are there for the protection of the country, all the deputies must send a message to the soldiers that the whole country is with them. All the parliamentarians in one voice will say that they are behind the brave soldiers; I hope this message gets out, ”he said.
The prime minister also urged MPs and media staff to abide by the social distancing protocol. “In these circumstances, we will comply with the protocols; Until there is a vaccine, we cannot lower our guard. We are hopeful that our scientists will succeed and we will get the vaccine, “he said.
