New Delhi:
Parliament today passed a bill to make it mandatory for NGO public office holders to provide their Aadhaar numbers at the time of registration and also bring various other changes.
Amid boycott of opposition to proceedings for suspension of eight MPs, Rajya Sabha unanimously passed the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Amendment Bill 2020.
Responding to discussion about the bill, Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said the legislation does not go against any NGO and is an effort to maintain transparency.
This amendment is in the interest of NGOs who want to do a good job in the country.
The bill was passed in Lok Sabha on Monday and will now be sent to the president for approval.
The minister said that the bill provides for the reduction of administrative expenses of any NGO that receives foreign funding, from 50 percent to 20 percent of annual funds to guarantee spending on its main objectives.
Among other provisions, the bill proposes that the Center allow an NGO or association to deliver its FCRA certificate.
