New Delhi: Pakistan is eager to include a Hindu name on the UN Security Council terrorist list, even as its attempt to list 4 Indians failed earlier this week. Islamabad wanted to list two Indian nationals, Gobinda Patnaik and Angara Appaji, as UN terrorists, but the offer was rejected earlier this week because the country did not provide any evidence.
UN Security Council sources said: “Their main objective was to bring in at least one Hindu name so that they can sustain their narrative of Hindu terror.” Explaining: “Imran Khan’s comments are self-explanatory, especially the language he has been using.”
The Pakistani prime minister has been trying to raise the specter of so-called “Hindu terror” as part of national propaganda, and Pakistan’s action at the UN is seen along those lines.
The recent stock action seems like a “no-cost” effort for Pakistan because they can give some random names and continue their propaganda for a year or so. In particular, Pakistan has the largest number of its citizens listed as international terrorists by the UN.
India is expected to remain vigilant as long as a slip and some innocent Indian ends up on the list, his name will be tainted by Pakistan. The thinking in the Indian establishment is that Islamabad has already smeared the names of 4 innocent people for no other reason than to promote their propaganda. Previously, he tried to include 2 other Indians: Venumadhav Dongara, Ajoy Mistry as terrorists, but the offer failed.
What is in India’s favor is that the 1267 committee of the United Nations Security Council works on the basis of evidence.
In particular, Western countries, especially those that blocked the list, do a lot of research on the real evidence.
The list was blocked this week by 5 UNSC countries: UK, US, France, Germany and Belgium after no evidence was found to support Pakistan’s claim. UNSC members gave Pakistan time to provide evidence, but Islamabad was unable to provide it.
