Mumbai: Nashik, an employee of the state-run Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), has been arrested by the Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) on charges of spying for Pakistan. The HAL employee was arrested by the Nashik unit of the Maharashtra ATS for supplying secret information to Pakistan’s intelligence agency, Interservice Intelligence.
The ATS said the arrested employee was providing information on Indian fighter jets and their manufacturing unit at HAL Nashik.
Siddhant Mishra from Times Now reported that the Nashik unit of Maharashtra ATS had received intelligence information on a person involved in supplying secret information about Indian fighter jets and their manufacture at HAL, Nashik to a foreigner.
The detained defendant, during interrogation, has revealed that he was in constant contact with the ISI and was providing classified information to its agents.
The information concerned sensitive details about Hal and his aircraft manufacturing unit at Ozar in Nashik. He also provided information on the airbase and prohibited areas within the manufacturing unit to the Pakistani agency.
The ATS has registered a crime in Articles 3, 4 and 5 of the Official Secrets Act of 1923. Detectives have seized three mobile phones with five SIM cards and two memory cards from the accused. The recovered items have been sent to a laboratory for forensic examination.
The defendant was brought before a court on Friday and sent to police custody for 10 days.
The operation to catch the accused was led by Deven Bharti, Additional Director General of Police, ATS; DIG Jayant Naiknavre; SP Ravindrasingh Pardeshi; DCP Vinaykumar Rathod and others.
