Chaudhry, a close associate of Prime Minister Imran Khan, made the remarks a day after the leader of the Opposition Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Ayaz Sadiq, said that Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, in an important meeting he called for the release of the Indian Air Force. Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured by the Pakistani military on February 27, 2019 after his MiG-21 Bison aircraft was shot down in a dogfight with Pakistani aircraft

In the early hours of February 26, 2019, IAF planes bombed the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) terrorist camps in Balakot in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and avenged the Pulwama terror attack that claimed the lives of 40 CRPF staff members.

“The legs were shaking and the forehead was sweating, and the Foreign Minister (Qureshi) told us, ‘For God’s sake, let him (Varthaman) come back now because India is attacking Pakistan at 9pm at night.’ Sadiq said, recalling the high-level meeting also attended by Army Chief Gen. Qamar Javed Bajwa, adding that “India was not planning to attack … They just wanted to kneel before India and send Abhinandan back.”

Mr. Chaudhry, who was the minister of information and broadcasting at the time of the Pulwama attack, criticized Sadiq’s statements as “inappropriate”.

The US-led international community has lobbied Pakistan to deny a safe haven to terrorist groups operating from its soil and to bring the perpetrators of the Pulwama attack to justice.
