NEW DELHI: Pakistan has been propaganda on social media against India using false Arab, Christian and Hindu identities to attack Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
Security agencies and independent users of social media after the investigation found that recent hashtags such as Islamophia in India on Twitter were primarily sourced from bots, trolls, and people in Pakistan. The idea was to bombard social media with content to generate anti-Modi sentiment in the Gulf countries and create a gap between India and its allies in the Middle East, the sources said.
In one case, a Twitter account that was initially @pak_fauj had changed it to @SayyindaMona and used the profile picture of an Arabian Mona Bint Fahd Al Saeed @ MonaFahad13. Hundreds of bots liked and retweeted the anti-India content of this identifier.
Social media influencer Anshul Saxena explained how Pakistan manages a Facebook page, Classified Journal Post (CJ Post) with thousands of subscribers, including many Indians. The CJ Post generally publishes propaganda videos and falsehoods to incite different communities with each other with the aim of disintegrating India in independent Kashmir, Khalistan, Dravidistan, etc.
He frequently points to brahminism with an agenda to feed anti-brahmin sentiments within Indian society. All videos are presented by Caucasian white presenters.
After Saxena scanned all her accounts on social media platforms, it turned out that the first posts were only about Pakistan and mainly in Urdu language. At some point, all of CJ Post’s handling on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter changed to global news. However, the accounts changed content after the Modi government came to power, targeting India.
CJ Post hired anchors from a website called Fiverr, where people charged between £ 10 and £ 50 to read a customer script, on the phone’s camera, or on a desktop computer using a video maker. The Feverr spokesperson video section offers customizable anchors in different gender, color and age categories. Presenters can make videos from their homes in their respective countries. The videos are then sent to your clients over the Internet.
These attempts at disinformation against India on social media are not new. The Pakistani ISI is known to have been campaigning on Kashmir on social media against India. Thousands of people pretending to be Hindus try to incite Muslims in Kashmir and the rest of India, using false news of human rights violations by the Indian security forces. Many bots publish community content against Muslims with the aim of inciting community violence.
