The Resistance Front, the new terrorist group that has been quick to take responsibility for the main terrorist attacks and shootings in Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks, is being controlled by three of the best Lashkar-e-Taiba handlers in Pakistan. , an Intelligence Report submitted to national security planners in New Delhi, has said.

The TRF was launched late last year after Parliament removed the special status of Jammu and Kashmir and divided the state into two centrally administered union territories, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Pak’s terror is renewed

The exercise is designed to give terror in Kashmir an indigenous face to avoid international pressure, particularly from the anti-terrorist funding watchdog FATF, on Pakistan sponsoring Islamist terror groups and what New Delhi describes as its jihadist terrorist factories.

This goal, a security official said, reflected the choice of names for recent terrorist initiatives by Inter Services Intelligence such as the Resistance Front or the discreet JK Pir Panjal Peace Forum. These names do not have a religious label, but suggest that it is a home breed.

  • The Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorists form the core of the TRF
  • TRF has claimed responsibility for most major shootings with security forces
  • Authorities say this is a facade, to help the terrorist group gain space in the public’s mind.

The intelligence report says that Lashkar’s leaders formed the core of the TRF.

“TRF is being controlled from Pakistan by the three main Lashkar handlers: Sajad Jatt for southern Kashmir, Khalid for central Kashmir and Hanzala Adnan for northern Kashmir,” the intelligence report accessed by the Hindustan Times said.

Right now, security officials said, the effort seemed to be to project the TRF as a formidable group to attract local recruits. Like when five terrorists and an equal number of army soldiers were killed in the Keran sector in early April, TRF social media managers in Pakistan claimed responsibility.

The group even claimed responsibility for the Handwara shooting this weekend that cost security forces five lives, including that of an army colonel. Subsequently, the police identified one of the two terrorists killed in the operation as Commander Lashkar Haider, a Pakistani citizen. The other was a local terrorist, a resident of Handwara.

“Almost all TRF terrorists, arrested or killed, have been included in our records under Lashkar-e-Taiba,” said Vijay Kumar, inspector general of police for Jammu and Kashmir. Lately, TRF had expanded its network and was also inducing Hizbul terrorists, he said.

“The idea is to show the world that what Kashmir has is the local militancy,” said Kumar.

Imran Khan enters

How Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted on Wednesday a coup in India accusing New Delhi of trying to “find a pretext for a false flag operation targeting Pakistan.” It was seen as a response to reports of Pakistan’s attempt to infiltrate terrorists. Khan underscored the claim that Kashmir’s problems were homegrown.

“The indigenous resistance of Kashmir against Indian occupation is a direct consequence of the oppression and brutalization of Kashmiris by India,” he tweeted.

Khan last week brought in the former general manager of Pak Army’s inter-service public relations lieutenant general (Asim Saleem Bajwa) as his new special assistant to head his media team.

The Pakistan Foreign Ministry spokesman followed up on Imran Khan’s tweet on Thursday with a detailed statement that elaborated on Khan’s point.

“India must realize that it cannot break the will of the Kashmiri people and suppress their indigenous resistance movement through the use of force … We also categorically reject once again the Indian accusations of infiltration into India,” he said. the spokeswoman Aisha Farooqui.

It was the second time this week that I was using the phrase.

The first was two days after the TRF claimed to be involved in the Handwara meeting on May 3 involving Lashkar commander Haider. “Attributing this indigenous Kashmir resistance to any alleged” infiltration “is a parody,” he wrote on Twitter on May 5.

How Lashkar sustains TRF in Kashmir

Back in Kashmir, intelligence officials said the old Lashkar-e-Taiba guard was focusing on recruiting new TRF recruits from the Kashmir valley.

In northern Kashmir, authorities said LeT terrorists like Mehrajdduin Halwal were consolidating the TRF base on the ground. Their social networks, which feed with content tracked to locations in Pakistan, have been campaigning aggressively. The first version of their social media also dates back to internet protocol addresses in Pakistan.

“We now have this account blocked on the social media platform Telegram,” Kashmir police chief Vijay Kumar said, suggesting that is why the group had not released any updates on the encounter that led to the murder of the Hizbul chief. Mujahideen in Kashmir Riyaz Naikoo.

For now, security officials expect the TRF to carry out grenade attacks, primarily using its ground workers or new recruits rather than risking their trained hands. A grenade attack, launched on Srinagar Hari Singh Main Street in October last year, was one of his first terror attacks. However, the group had lost dozens of grenades when some of its ashore workers carrying AK-47s and grenades were caught by police in March and are believed to be seeking to replenish their supplies.
