Owaisi is ‘Jinnah’s New Avatar’: BJP’s Tejasvi Surya Attacks AIMIM Ahead of GHMC Polls

“A vote for Owaisi is a defeat of all the good things that India represents,” said Tejasvi Surya.

The BJP deputy and the chairman of the party’s youth wing, Tejasvi Surya, attacked ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) in Hyderabad on Monday, claiming that the party’s leadership took pleasure in promoting family rule, ignoring the people. He also lashed out at AIMIM, describing its president Asaduddin Owaisi as the new “avatar” of Mohammed Ali Jinnah. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections are important at the national level because a vote for (Asaduddin) Owaisi in Hyderabad would make him stronger in Bihar, UP, Maharashtra and others, he claimed.

“And what does Owaisi mean? Who is Owaisi? Owaisi is the new avatar of Mohammed Ali Jinnah,” he said, adding that every vote for BJP is a vote for Bharat and Hindutva and will make the country much stronger.

“A vote for Owaisi will mean a vote against India. A vote for Owaisi is a defeat of all the good things that India represents. We will not allow this Islamization to occur. Yuva Morcha Telangana, this is our ‘sankalp’ (resolution), ” he said.

Referring to certain alleged comments by AIMIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi earlier, he said that this is not the era of the Nizams but that of the “Hindu hriday samrat” Narendra Modi. TRS and AIMIM are two sides of the same coin, he said.

“The government is not working for the common people of Telangana … the government is working only for a family of Telangana,” he said. Criticizing TRS, he said that the definition of democracy has changed in Telangana. “… What is happening in Telangana and Hyderabad? Government and party, from the family, by the family, by the family,” he said.

Surya, speaking after launching a BJP “Change Hyderabad” campaign for the December 1 civic elections in Hyderabad, alleged that TRS, as well as AIMIM, have turned political parties into private companies.

Saying that Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the first Prime Minister to initiate a political speech on urban development, he said that it was Narendra Modi, after Vajpayee, who launched the 100 smart cities program and the Amrut mission, placing importance on improving the cities.

BJP Yuva Morcha activists should ask Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao what happened to the funds allocated to Hyderabad by the NDA government under the smart cities program, he said.

The funds allocated by the NDA government “went directly into the pockets of contractors who are supporters of KCR,” he alleged. Cities across the country where the BJP is in power have seen rapid development, Surya said.

In response to Surya’s comments, TRS MP Banda Prakash said that the BJP was taking the AIMIM name for its own benefit. “Without accusing us, they should say what the Union government wants to do,” said the TRS leader.

TRS is competing in all 150 GHMC districts and the party has made it clear that it has no alliance with AIMIM, Prakash added. Owaisi and his AIMIM have not yet responded to comments.
