OnePlus announced the IDEAS Beta Run program a while back and invited everyone in the community to help improve OxygenOS by implementing new features. The most popular ideas will be considered and then implemented in OxygenOS with a future update. Well, the time has come for OnePlus to announce the winners. Here is the list of the top 15 features awaiting adoption and a link to each on the community forum.
1. Edge notification light
2. OnePlus Dex
3. Call recording
4. Use Google apps instead of custom ones
5. Study mode
6. API support for Gcam
7. Improve adaptive brightness
8. Custom fingerprint animations
9. Real time weather wallpaper
10. Real one-handed mode
11. AMOLED dark
12. Improves the capabilities of the alert slider
13. An option to set the battery charge limit to 80%
14. Variable loading speed
15. Allow users to choose which stock apps to install during setup
Some of them are self explanatory, but we found some quite smart and seemingly easy to implement. The edge notification light, for example, is a good substitute for the LED notification light, which is why one user suggested an option to extend the duration of the edge notification light, so even if you missed the first blink, you will see the following.
Another really cool one is to add more customization options to the alert slider. We recall that this was a thing in the previous iterations of OxygenOS before Android 9 Pie.
Anyway, a set of five suggestions were not included as they are in development. The most sought-after functionality is the Always-on display and OnePlus provided an approximate time frame in which we can expect it to hit devices. If everything goes according to plan, users will receive it sometime in August / September.
Fingerprint lock for images hidden in the gallery, sound playback when the phone has finished charging, folders inside the app drawer, and adding more “essential features” to Zen Mode are also on the sheet route and should come with future updates.
