OnePlus put its foot in the door by selling flagship-level performance phones at lower prices, but it has not been immune to huge increases in smartphone prices since then. This is especially evident with the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro, which have had price increases of 140 euros and more compared to the 7T and 7T Pro.

WinFuture was able to see the price of the OP8 through Czech retailer Alza. Prices may vary slightly by country, but here they are:

  • OnePlus 8 (8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage): ~ 719/729 euros
  • OnePlus 8 (12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage): ~ 819/829 euros
  • OnePlus 8 Pro (8 GB of RAM, 128 GB of storage): ~ 919/929 euros
  • OnePlus 8 Pro (12 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage): ~ 1009/1019 euros

For comparison, the OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro started at € 579 and € 759, respectively. That means we are seeing price increases of at least 140 euros across the line. The 5G integration in these phones is probably the main culprit in the price jump; As WinFuture says, the added cost for Qualcomm’s new processors, 5G license fees, and the additional 5G modem are all contributors.

That said, the latest OnePlus phones will continue to be among the cheapest 5G-equipped devices on the market. For a direct comparison of the market, the Xiaomi Mi 10 5G costs 799 euros, and the OPPO Find X2 costs 999 euros. OnePlus is still undermining competitors by a healthy amount, even if it doesn’t look that way at a glance.
