One more cyclonic storm brewing, heavy rains forecast for Tamil Nadu, Kerala: IMD


Chennai: A depression formed over the Bay of Bengal on Monday and is very likely to intensify into a deep depression and progress as a cyclonic storm, bringing heavy rains to southern Tamil Nadu and southern Kerala between 2 and 3 of December, the Indian Meteorological Department said. The storm is likely to cross the coast of Sri Lanka on December 2 in the afternoon or evening and then emerge to the Comorin area, around Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu, the next day in the morning, IMD said. Under the influence of the weather system, it is likely to rain over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, the southern coast of Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep from December 1-4, the department said in its latest bulletin. The Indian Meteorological Department issued a red / orange rain alert for the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Idukki on December 2-3.

“A depression has formed in the southeast of the Bay of Bengal. It is likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm on December 1. Total suspension of fishing operations in the areas on December 3 and 4,” said K Santosh of IMD Kerala. AND ME.

It is very likely to intensify further into a deep depression over the next 12 hours and a cyclonic storm over the next 24 hours. The department advised the total suspension of fishing operations from today until December 4 in all regions that would come under the influence of the system. The very severe cyclonic storm Nivar crossed the Puducherry coast days ago and influenced heavy rains in various parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
