Once the Covid vaccine is ready, it will be given free to people in Tamil Nadu, says CM Edappadi K Palaniswami

Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami said Thursday that as soon as the vaccine for the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is ready, it will be given to the people of the state for free.

The announcement comes on a day when Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while publishing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) manifesto for the Bihar Assemblhy elections, announced a free vaccine for the people of the state.

“Once the Covid-19 vaccine is ready, it will be provided to everyone in the state at no cost,” Palaniswami said, according to the ANI news agency.

Previously, the BJP had announced that the people of Bihar would receive the Covid-19 vaccine for free shortly after the vaccine became available for mass production. The announcement was part of several promises made on his 11-point Sankalp Patra.

BJP’s announcement to provide free Covid-19 vaccine in Bihar, a country linked to the polls, did not go all that well with the opposition.

Bhupendra Yadav, the party’s national secretary general and head of Bihar, said the announcement should not be seen as an electoral promise and that health is an important aspect of public policy.

“If the parties are allowed to talk about alleviating hunger and poverty, improving the situation of farmers and offering jobs, why should they not talk about public health? It is an important aspect of public policy and all political parties must reasonably address it, ”Yadav said.
