The final of the Indian Premier League between the Mumbai Indians and the Chennai Super Kings was an epic encounter. The MS Dhoni-led franchise had lost three times to Mumbai earlier in the season, including once in the playoffs. But the question was on everyone’s mind: Can Mumbai win when it matters most? Both teams competed to become the tournament’s most successful franchise, having won three titles before.
After winning the toss, the Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma chose to hit. On a good hitting surface in Hyderabad, Mumbai starters Quinton de Kock and Rohit got off to a good start, before they were both fired in quick succession.

MI’s mid order faltered, but Kieron Pollard’s undefeated 41-of-25 ball helped the team score a total of 149/8 in 20 overs.
Going out to chase, Shane Watson, who had scored at the 2018 IPL to help his team win the title, released a half-century fast pitch. But the wickets continued to drop on the other end, and the pressure continued to mount on CSK. With five wickets in hand, Chennai needed 9 to win in the final with Watson and Jadeja in the middle. Lasith Malinga entered the attack.

Watson suffered a dramatic run on the fourth ball in the final, leaving 80 on 59 balls. With CSK needing 4 to win on 2 balls, Shardul Thakur picked up a double. With two more to defend on the final ball, Malinga brought down a sensational yorker to fire Thakur and win the Mumbai title by a single run.
The ball’s thrilling final victory meant the Mumbai Indians created history by becoming the first IPL team to win the title four times.
