On Wednesday, the Bombay High Court will announce a decision on the release of bail for Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty. Rhea Chakraborty, who was in a relationship with actor Sushant Singh Rajput, was arrested on September 8 by the Office of Narcotics Control.
The agency, which investigates the drug angle related to the actor’s death, had accused her of being “an active member of a drug syndicate.”
On September 22, when his judicial custody ended, a Mumbai court extended it until October 6 and subsequently until October 20, after the agency expressed fear that it could tamper with the evidence.
The 28-year-old actress and her brother Showik had approached the Bombay High Court for bail after a special NDPS court rejected their bail statement.
The agency had claimed that Rhea Chakraborty used to “manage finances for the purchase of drugs.” She was aware of “every delivery and payment” and even the choice of medications. Her brother Showik Chakraborty, arrested days before her, revealed that he used to facilitate the delivery of the drug, the agency said.
The agency claimed they had targeted them after questioning a couple of drug dealers and examining Rhea Chakraborty’s cell phone messages.
Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, 34, was found dead in his Mumbai apartment on June 14. The Mumbai police’s conclusion that it was a suicide case was contested by many and with murder theories proliferating on social media, the matter escalated and went to the Supreme Court, leading to the IWC. to take over the case by order of the court.
Mumbai police declared themselves vindicated last week when a team of doctors from Delhi’s prestigious All-India Institute of Medical Sciences said they had found no evidence of murder and that it was a case of suicide.
Meanwhile, the actor’s family had accused Rhea Chakraborty of exploiting him for money, medicating him, and playing a role in his death. They had filed an FIR in Patna. Sushant’s sisters have also been named defendants in an FIR filed by Rhea Chakraborty that has also been transferred to the CBI for investigation.
Her lawyer, lawyer Madhav Thorat, said: “Rhea had alleged that her sisters had given her medication in violation of the NDPS Act. This was submitted after three months. We have challenged this FIR in the Bombay High Court and requested the court annul the FIR and it will be heard next Tuesday. “
