Tejashwi Yadav, leader of the opposition in Bihar, was attacked with a sneaker on Tuesday while campaigning for his party’s candidate RJD in the Aurangabad district, about 125 km from the state capital, Patna. One sneaker misses him completely, the other lands on his lap, shows a video clip of the incident.

Mr. Yadav was in the Kutumba assembly segment to address a public demonstration. The incident occurred as soon as he took his place on stage amid slogans in his support from party workers.

It is unclear who threw the shoes at Mr. Yadav and why.

Mr. Yadav, however, was apparently unfazed by the incident, as he did not even mention it in his speech.

Tejashwi Yadav, a minister in the previous RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) -JDU government, leads his party’s campaign for the Bihar Assembly elections in the absence of his father, Lalu Yadav, who has been in jail since 2017 after being convicted of corruption. cases.

The 30-year-old Yadav faces four-time Chief Minister Nitish Kumar with attacks for his inability to obtain special status for Bihar even though his ally BJP is in power in the Center.

“People are very angry. 15 years have passed but Bihar has no special status. They have not been able to eliminate poverty, unemployment. People are extremely upset with this twin-engine government,” he told NDTV earlier this week .

Yadav’s party is contesting the Bihar Assembly elections in alliance with Congress and left-wing parties. The RJD will run its candidates in 144 of the 243 seats in Bihar.

His rival, Mr. Kumar, is the main ministerial face of the National Democratic Alliance, which is headed by the BJP at the national level.

Chirag Paswan, the head of the Lok Janshakti Party, broke away from the alliance and ran candidates against Kumar’s JDU in various constituencies, forcing a triangular contest.

Bihar votes for a new assembly on October 28, November 3 and 7. Results will be declared on November 10.
