Washington:
61% of those appointed by the White House are women and 54% are people of color, said President-elect Joe Biden’s transition team.
On Wednesday, Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris exceeded their goal of naming 100 members to their incoming administration.
These successful people join a historic, barrier-free White House and administration that resembles America, and they are ready to deliver results for working families from day one, Biden’s transition team said.
The Biden-Harris administration will prioritize diversity of ideology and background, and nurture talent to tackle the nation’s most complex challenges, he said.
The White House staff represents a small percentage of the total number of Biden-Harris appointees who will serve throughout the federal government, the transition said.
“The first 100 White House appointees, including those announced today, represent the United States as follows: 61% are women, 54% are people of color, AAPI appointees represent more than Double their share of the national population, LGBTQ + appointees make up 11 percent of all White House staff, “Biden’s transition said.
According to statistics released by the Biden transition, nearly 20 percent of the appointees are first-generation Americans, and about 40 percent of senior White House staff have children at home.
“From the beginning, Vice President-elect Harris and I have sought to build an administration that resembles the United States. Building a diverse team will lead to better results and more effective solutions to address the urgent crises facing our nation. Those named today leverage their knowledge and life experiences to help us rebuild the country better. If we move forward together, there is nothing we cannot achieve, “said Biden.
Harris said that to meet the unprecedented challenges facing the American people, an administration that reflects the best of the country must be built.
“These remarkable public servants have the knowledge and experience to get to work from day one. And I look forward to working with them to control this virus, safely and responsibly reopen our economy and our schools, and rebuild our country in a way that it elevates all Americans, “he said.
“The president-elect and vice-president-elect have committed to building a White House team that is filled with crisis-proven experts who will start work day one. I am delighted to have achieved our goal of appointing 100 member employees to late 2020, and I couldn’t be more proud of the talented and diverse team we will put to work for the American people, “said incoming White House Chief of Staff Ron Klain.
