Srinagar:
National Conference (NC) Vice President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday questioned the rationale behind the District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir, as he claimed candidates were prevented from campaigning for reasons of security.
It alleged that non-BJP candidates fighting for elections were prevented from campaigning, while the administration did everything possible to help the BJP.
“What kind of elections are taking place at J&K where candidates are prevented from campaigning? Is this the safe and terror-free J&K that the interior minister was tweeting about yesterday,” Abdullah said in a tweet.
He claimed that they were locking up candidates from parties that opposed the BJP.
“The J&K administration is doing everything possible to help the BJP and recently created the king’s party by locking up the candidates opposed to the BJP, using security as an excuse. If the security situation is not conducive to campaigning, what was it? the need to announce elections, “he asked in another tweet.
PPD Chairman Mehbooba Mufti also said that non-BJP candidates cannot campaign freely.
“Non-BJP candidates for DDC polls cannot campaign freely and are locked in on the pretext of security. But BJP and its representatives have full bandobast to move. Is this the democracy the GOI claimed to promote? on the phone yesterday? convo with the president-elect of the United States, “Mufti wrote on Twitter.
