“The representatives of the federations and officials of the Ministry of Defense (MoD) agreed that, during the processing of the ongoing conciliation procedures, the Ministry will abide by the provisions of article 33 (1) of the Labor Disputes Law of 1947, which stipulates that the employer cannot alter the conditions of service of the employees until conciliation procedures are concluded, ”the Ministry said in a statement. However, it will not affect the government’s decision to corporateize OFB, he added.

In July 2020, the government made the decision to convert OFB, a subordinate office of the Ministry of Defense, into one or more of a 100% government-owned corporate entity, registered under the Companies Law of 2013.

Following this, three federations of civil defense employees notified a joint strike from 12 October. The Ministry of Defense referred the matter to the Chief Labor Commissioner of the Ministry of Labor and Employment to initiate a conciliation.

Representatives of the federations have also been invited to meet with the secretary, the Defense Production Department and the Group of Empowered Ministers to expose their problems and complaints, the statement added.
