BHUBANESHWAR: The Odisha government has decided to provide free transportation and accommodation to applicants for the Joint Entrance Exams (JEE) and the Comprehensive National Eligibility Entrance Exam (NEET) in the state, said Asit Tripathy, chief secretary of state.
Tripathy reported that a total of 37,000 students will sit for the main JEE exam and for that, a total of 26 exam centers have been established in seven cities here.
Per Prime Minister Naveen Patnaik’s instructions, students who sit for the exam and require transportation and accommodation will receive the same facilities at no cost from the state government. “District administrations have been advised to facilitate the movement of candidates and their parents without any hindrance due to shutdown and closure,” she said.
Speaking about the hotels in the state, the Chief Secretary of Odisha said: “Currently, the hotels are not working due to Covid-19, therefore the Chief Minister has ordered that the Hostels / ITI of the College be opened of Engineering and to provide free accommodation to NEETs and JEE applicants. The Chief Minister has also ordered the opening of nodal centers in each district to assist students and their parents. Candidates must inform the nodal centers about their requirements for transportation and accommodation “.
Recently, Prime Minister Naveen Patnaik had written to the Union HRD Minister and spoken with the Prime Minister to postpone the NEET and JEE (network) exam.
On Friday, members of the Congress party and its student wing, the National Union of Students of India, had held nationwide protests against the Center’s decision to conduct JEE and NEET in September and demanded that the Center postpone the exams. in view of the Covid. -19 pandemic.
Protests against the decision took place in different states and Union territories of the country, including Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Rajasthan, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Odisha and Gujarat.
The Union’s education minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, had said on Thursday that the safety and future of students was the top priority regarding the conduct of the JEE and NEET amid the Covid-19 pandemic. He added that several measures had been taken, including increasing the number of test centers.
The National Testing Agency is scheduled to take the NEET exams on September 13 and the JEE exams between September 1-6.
