NTPC opens a vast land bank within its power plants for Indian companies and MSMEs to establish industrial parks


In a key initiative to promote ‘Make in India’ and give a boost to the government’s vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’, the country’s largest energy producer, NTPC Ltd, has opened a vast land bank within its power plants. for Indian companies interested in establishing industrial parks and manufacturing facilities.

The energy producer has invited companies and MSMEs to express their interest in the installation of energy-intensive manufacturing plants, such as bulk chemicals, geopolymers, cooling and heating solutions, aluminum, mineral processing (ceramics, tiles , pottery, brick, glass, etc.), metallurgical and metallurgical (foundries, forging, alloys, heat treatment, steel winding, etc.) in the industrial parks to be developed in their existing power plants.

The pilots in this regard would be established at the NTPC thermal power plants in Solapur (Maharashtra), Kudgi (Karnataka) and Gadarwara (Madhya Pradesh), according to a company statement.

These industrial parks will be subject to the necessary approvals from the respective state and central governments. NTPC will process these approvals based on responses received at the EoI, the statement added.

The government has announced a series of economic packages aimed at building a self-sufficient India by creating an enabling environment for investment and the development of manufacturing centers.

NTPC power plants across the country have become economic centers with a strong infrastructure system.

Leveraging the economic ecosystem developed over a period of time, NTPC is exploring ideas to improve land use within its plant locations to enhance economic activity and further contribute to the country’s economic growth.

The initiative will create industrial parks within the power plants that, in addition to offering the advantage of a reliable electricity supply at competitive prices, will provide other benefits of readily available infrastructure services such as adequate water supply, accessibility through the road network and railways, robust connectivity with Internet lease lines. , the accessibility to the municipality, medical facilities and the local market along with various test facilities that will be co-opted as needed.

As part of the plan, NTPC will enter into a separate agreement with potential entities for space allocation.

With a total installed capacity of 62.9 GW, the NTPC Group has 70 power plants comprising 24 coal, 7 gas / liquid fuel combined cycle, 1 hydro, 13 renewables along with 25 subsidiary and joint power plants. The group has more than 20 GW of capacity under construction, of which 5GW is made up of renewable energy.
