Asking citizens to be cautious while online, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval said on Friday that financial fraud has seen an exponential increase due to increased reliance on digital payment platforms following the pandemic. Covid-19.
He also said that the Center was developing the National Cyber Security Strategy – 2020, which envisions a safe, reliable, resilient and vibrant cyberspace for India’s prosperity.
I was lecturing on cybersecurity virtually at COCONXIII-2020, a data hacking and privacy conference hosted by Kerala Police and the Society for Cyberspace Surveillance and Information Security Research Association.
According to him, there is a change in the work environment that has been caused by the pandemic.
“There is a greater dependence on the digital payment platform due to the reduction of cash handling and the greater exchange of data online and the presence on social networks has also increased. While we can manage our affairs online to some extent, malicious actors also found a new opportunity in it, ”said Doval.
Doval said there was a 500 percent increase in cybercrime due to limited awareness and cyber hygiene.
“Financial fraud has seen an exponential increase due to a greater dependence on digital payment platforms. The adversaries are tempted to exploit the crisis situation through misinformation, fake news, etc. The huge cyber data floating in cyberspace is a gold mine for extracting information that can undermine the privacy of our citizens … ”said Doval.
He warned citizens while online and said that there should be a responsible approach to using the internet.
The NSA congratulated the Kerala state government and police for the initiative.
Opening the conference, Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan said that increasing reliance on the internet is becoming a permanent feature of people’s lives due to COVID-19, so citizens should be more cautious while are online.
This edition of the conference was on the virtual platform this year due to the pandemic scenario.
“Various types of cybercrime are occurring in our country and it is high time that we take adequate precautions against such crimes …” Khan said.
Senior police officers, including State Police Chief Loknath Behera, participated on the first day of the two-day conference.
