Congress leader and former finance minister P Chidambaram said Thursday that the millions of rupees allocated by the PM-CARES Fund to migrant workers affected by the coronavirus blockade will not reach them.

“PM-CARES has allocated Rs 1 billion rupees to migrant workers. Please do not make the common mistake. The money will not be given to migrant workers but to state governments to cover travel, accommodation, medicine and food for migrant workers. But nothing will go into the hands of migrant workers, “Mr. Chidambaram tweeted.

He asked questions about how a migrant will survive if he has no source of income.

“Let’s take a migrant worker who has crossed all obstacles and returned to his village. There is no work in the village. He has no job or income. How is he going to survive and support his family?” I ask.

The PM-CARES Trust Fund or the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations allocated Rs 3.1 billion on Wednesday to fight COVID-19, of which Rs 2 billion will be used to buy fans, Rs 1 billion rupees to help migrant workers and Rs 100 crore for the development of the coronavirus vaccine.
