MS Dhoni announced his retirement earlier this year, but his impact is still being felt on the cricket field. This was once again visible on Sunday at the Sydney Cricket Ground as Australia goalkeeper and captain Matthew Wade recalled the former India captain’s skills behind the stumps.
The incident occurred when Wade failed to stump India starter Shikhar Dhawan in the ninth final of the India chase when Mitchell Swepson was playing southpaw.
Swepson delivered an open one, which was short and off the stump that Dhawan went to cut and missed. Wade cleverly waited for the foot to lift, perhaps hoping to dismiss Dhawan as the way MS Dhoni had dismissed Sabbir Rahman of Bangladesh during the 2016 T20 World Cup. But Dhawan was quick to knock his foot down to weather.
Wade needed to be faster there, ala Dhoni, to catch Dhawan off guard.
No Dhoni, not fast enough Dhoni! “Wade was caught saying into the stump mic to which Dhawan responded by saying” Yes. “

After the act of perplexity … Wade says

Earlier, India clinched the three-game Twenty20 series over Australia with a six-wicket victory at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Sunday. Hardik Pandya finished what Shikhar Dhawan had set out to achieve with a brilliant 52-36 balls in the second and penultimate games.
India at one point needed 72 36-ball runs to win before Pandya made it into the box and turned the game around. His 42 runs of 22 balls, including two sixes in the final, led the visitors to victory with two balls remaining.
India won the opener by 11 runs. The third game is scheduled for Tuesday, also at SCG.
“He played well in the end. It was an amazing show, ”Australia coach Justin Langer said of Pandya. “We know how dangerous it is… it was a great tackle. The seasoned T20 players from India were too good for us. “
