Northeast monsoon over Tamil Nadu, Kerala | Chennai News


CHENNAI: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Wednesday the start of northeast monsoon finished Tamil nadu Y Kerala.
“The southwest monsoon retreated from across the country today. Simultaneously, the northeast monsoon started over the southern tip of the Indian peninsula, including Tamil Nadu and Kerala, ”said IMD Deputy Director General S Balachandran. The normal start of the northeast monsoon is October 20 with a six-day deviation.
IMD issued heavy rain warnings for isolated locations in Tirunelveli, Thenkasi and Virudhunagar districts on Wednesday and Thursday.
Parts of Chennai received rain in the morning. Nungambakkam recorded 12.8mm of rain on Wednesday.
The IMD has forecast that light to moderate rains are likely to occur in some areas of the city over the next 48 hours. Minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to be around 31 degrees and 25 degrees Celsius.
Chennai receives almost 63% (867.4 mm) of its annual precipitation, and Tamil Nadu receives 48% (438 mm) of its annual precipitation from the northeast monsoon.
