Nominated for motor vehicles proposed for a smoother transfer of ownership

In an attempt to smooth the process of transferring ownership of motor vehicles, the Ministry of Highway and Highway Transportation (MoRTH) proposed to amend the 1989 Central Motor Vehicle Rules to make it easier for the vehicle owner to designate a person (nominated in RC).

The draft notification on the matter was published by the Transport Ministry on Thursday. It is proposed to incorporate the nomination mechanism at the time of vehicle registration, but the name of the nominee can also be added later through an online application. This would help the motor vehicle be registered / transferred in the name of the nominee, in the event of the death of the vehicle owner.

The property transfer process is otherwise cumbersome, not uniform across the country and frequent visits to offices.

The nominee of the motor vehicle must present “proof of identity” to be the legal heir of the vehicle in the event of death.

If the nominee is already specified, the vehicle will be transferred to the name of the nominee and the nominee must upload the death certificate on the portal to inform the registration authority and request a new registration certificate in his name through the portal that he will not have face if candidate chooses Aadhaar authentication

MoRTH on Friday also invited suggestions and comments from the public and all interested parties on the proposed amendment.
