Eight people were arrested and challans issued to the owners of 179 vehicles across Noida and Greater Noida for allegedly defying the blockade from Tuesday, the Gautam Bddh Nagar, police said.
Code of criminal Procedure (CrPC) section 144 is in force in Gautam Buddha Nagar, which falls in the red zone for Covid-19, even as a lock of the restrictions continue due to the pandemic, the prohibition of normal movement in this district, in western Uttar Pradesh, adjoining Delhi.

“Five FIRs were registered on Tuesday of blocking violations and eight people arrested. A total of 803 vehicles were controlled through the barrier of 200 points in the district and challans issued to (owners of) 179 of them, while one was confiscated,” police said in a statement.
The FIRs were registered under the Indian Penal Code section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) and the violation of the prohibition of orders put in place under the CrPC section 144, which bars assembly of four or more people, they said.
Noida on the border with Delhi remains sealed with the movement permission only for essential services and for those who have passes issued by the district administration, according to the authorities.
The administration had in April banned movement between Noida and Delhi, in an attempt to break the chain of Covid-19 transmission and several cases of coronavirus here is linked to the national capital, the officials said.
On Tuesday, 289 positive cases of coronavirus have been registered in the district, including five deaths, while the 207 patients who have recovered and were discharged from hospitals, according to official figures.
