No vaccinations in Maharashtra as of Monday amid Center app issues

COVID-19 Vaccination Day 1 says 1.91 lakh people get vaccinated from a target of 3 lakh.

Mumbai:

There will be no COVID-19 vaccines in Maharashtra until Monday amid technical problems with the center’s software platform to administer the program, Maharashtra Public Health Minister Rajesh Tope told PTI news agency on Saturday.

The CoWIN app, which is used to count beneficiaries, has failed during the day, slowing down the inoculation process in some places, authorities said at the end of the first day of India’s colossal vaccination campaign on Saturday.

“Not only in Maharashtra, throughout the country this application generated problems in the execution of the vaccination campaign. We have decided to suspend the vaccination for the next two days. On January 8, when the test was carried out, and again today I specifically pointed out “The problems with the CoWIN app and Union Minister Harsh Vardhan said he will look into it,” Tope told PTI.

On the first day of the vaccination campaign, the government said it was aiming to vaccinate more than 3 lakh people in more than 3,000 vaccination centers established across the country. By the end of the day, 1.91 lakh had been inoculated, he said.

Government sources said there was considerable hesitation among people about receiving the vaccines, which explains the paucity of numbers. Health Ministry officials emphasized that the campaign was successful, there were no post-vaccine hospitalizations, and the only setbacks involved CoWIN.

On the first day of the vaccination drive, 65 percent of frontline workers who were scheduled to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Maharashtra were vaccinated, an official told PTI. The rest did not appear, he said.

“The goal was to deliver doses of vaccine to 28,500 recipients at 285 centers across the state. At the end of the day, 18,425 recipients, or 65 percent, received the injection,” said Dr. Dilip Patil, state immunization officer.

In Hingoli district, 100% participation was recorded for vaccination, while in Dhule, Solapur, Beed, Parbhani and Buldhana, the overall percentage of vaccination was above 90%.

The indigenous Covaxin vaccine was administered to 385 healthcare workers at six centers. In other centers the Covishield vaccine was used.

“The remaining 35 percent (who did not show up despite being scheduled) will receive the blows in subsequent sessions,” said Dr. Patil.
