No pre-final exam for classes 10, 12 in Bengal: Mamata Banerjee

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Wednesday that a preliminary examination for classes 10 and 12 would not be carried out in the state due to the coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

“Due to the current situation of the Covid pandemic, the State Department of Education has decided that students currently studying in classes 10 and 12 will not have their pre-final exams,” Banerjee said.

Banerjee had previously said that his administration would think about reopening educational institutions after Kali Puja on November 15 “depending on the Covid-19 situation at that time.”

The development comes amid speculation that the Central Board of Secondary (CBSE) could change the Class 10, Class 12 exam schedule in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Previously, the CBSE had postponed the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) due to the pandemic and the CTET exam will now take place on January 31, 2021.
