Gujarat police dismissed reports of the attack on a Tanishq brand jewelry store in the Kutch district. Reports had emerged earlier in the day that, angered by an interfaith ad launched by the brand, some people attacked the store in Gandhidham.
The reports began circulating after an image of an apology note posted by a Tanishq showroom went viral on the internet. “We apologize to the Hindu community in Kutch for Tanishq’s embarrassing announcement,” the handwritten note allegedly read.
Reports also claimed that the store manager was forced to write the letter.
“No such attack has taken place,” said Mayur Patil, Kutch-East Police Superintendent, as quoted by the PTI news agency.
The note was posted on the store’s door on October 12 and has since been removed, the PTI cited law enforcement officials.
Tanishq’s ad, which received much criticism on social media after its launch, showed a Muslim family celebrating a baby shower for their Hindu daughter-in-law. The jewelry brand withdrew the ad after receiving a massive backlash.
