No lockdown in Delhi even as Covid-19 cases rise, says Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain

A day after meeting with the union’s interior minister, Amit Shah, to curb the spread of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in Delhi, the city’s health minister has declared that there will be no lockdown.

“The blockade in Delhi will not be re-imposed. I don’t think this is an effective step now; wearing masks will be more beneficial, ”Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain told ANI.

He added that Delhi has crossed the peak of the third wave of infections. The number of Covid-19 cases began to skyrocket about three weeks ago, with the highest number of cases recorded so far on November 11 (8,593). Delhi reported 3,235 new cases of coronavirus disease (Covid-19) on Diwali according to Sunday’s health. bulletin.

However, experts warned that this decline could be due to fewer people getting tested closer to the holiday season and the numbers could rise again.

“There was a drop in the numbers, but it is too early to tell if the number of infections has peaked. In fact, I think it’s not even a real decline. With Diwali, fewer people may have been tested. We are likely to see more cases again on Monday, ”said Dr. Vikas Maurya, director of the department of pulmonology and sleep disorders at Fortis Hospital, Shalimar Bagh.

Added to the concerns are Delhi’s generally rising pollution levels during winter and falling temperatures, which can lead to more infections and serious illness.

A committee headed by Niti Aayog member Dr. VK Paul had said Delhi could see up to 15,000 cases a day during winter.

In the meeting with the union’s interior minister, Amit Shah, it was decided that the number of tests will be increased to about 100,000 per day, with the assistance of the center. Currently, the city analyzes around 60,000 samples a day. There will also be an increase in the number of ICU beds in the army-run facilities in Dhaula Kuan, the number of oxygen beds in the 10,000-bed Covid Care Center in Chhatarpur, and paramilitary forces doctors will be transferred in plane.
