MUMBAI: Former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday he stated that the BJP He has no intention of joining the Shiv Sena or of overthrowing the state government led by Uddhav Thackeray.
Speaking to journalists here, Fadnavis claimed that the people of the state are “unhappy” with the performance of the Shiv Sena-led government of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and that it would “collapse due to their own inactions.”
The senior leader of the BJP also said that his meeting with Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Saturday, which sparked speculation in political circles, was about an interview for the Sena spokesperson ‘Saamana‘.
The Shiv Sena severed ties with the BJP last year after the Maharashtra assembly polls on the issue of sharing the main ministerial position.
The party led by Uddhav Thackeray later joined the NCP and Congress to form the MVA government in the state.
“We have no intention of joining Shiv Sena or overthrowing the government. When it falls by itself, we will see it,” said Fadnavis, leader of the opposition in the state Assembly.
“My meeting with Raut had no political connotations. He asked me for an interview for ‘Saamana’, which I agreed to. But I had set my conditions – like that the interview should be unedited and I should put my own camera during the interview. So we meet to discuss the details, “he said.
Meanwhile, Raut, who also spoke to reporters here separately, said that he and Fadnavis are not enemies and the prime minister. Uddhav Thackeray he was aware of the meeting that was planned to discuss the interview schedule.
However, the leader of Congress, Sanjay Nirupam, criticized Raut, saying he was in a hurry to grab the headlines.
“When that happens, political careers end. This is not my bad wish for Raut, but a reality,” the former head of the Mumbai Congress told PTI.
Nirupam, who has been sulking since his removal from the post of Mumbai head of Congress before the Lok Sabha elections last year, said that if the party is serious about opposing new farm bills passed by Parliament, You should first ask the ruler Shiv Sena in Maharashtra to explain his position.
Congress and the NCP say they will not allow implementation of the new laws in Maharashtra, while Prime Minister Thackeray has not said a word about it, he said.
“The Shiv Sena supported the agricultural bills in the Lok Sabha, while staging a Rajya Sabha strike when other opposition parties demanded a vote on them,” Nirupam said, adding that Maharashtra farmers are confused (about the state government position).
