Washington:
A vote count cannot be requested in Georgia before the state certifies the results on November 20, Georgia voting system implementation manager Gabriel Sterling told reporters.
Local officials say that if margins stay within a 0.5 percentage point range, a vote count can be requested.
“You cannot request a recount until the election is certified,” Ms. Sterling said.
Ms. Sterling explained that the “outer limit” for such a request is November 20.
“[O]We hope and intend to work with the counties to get there sooner. And at that point, whoever is in second place, whether it’s President (Donald) Trump or Vice President (Joe) Biden … can request this recount, “he said.
Biden is 1,586 votes ahead of Trump in Georgia, a state that has 16 electoral votes.
